Why do people feel sleepy while reading?

Reading is an almost hypnotic action characterized by rhythmic eye movement, a relaxed physical position and a focus of attention. This combination produces somnolence and a decreased alertness unless the subject that you are reading calls for diverse intellectual operations as i.e. calculations and deductive thinking.

Because there is a word or symbol that you don't understand in what you are reading. You should look earlier and find it and look it up in a dictionary. There can be more than one misunderstood word - from (Basic Study Manual), based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard.
