Because they feel a sense of security being surrounded by big tough guys with guns. Then they become addicted to everything they do, when they realize what they're doing is wrong, its to late and they're to scared to quit because now the rest of the gang is ready to shoot them if they quit.

∙ 9y agoThey usually join out of fear. Young people tend to recognize at an emotional level that they are truly incapable of dealing with the world and feel as though they would be empowered if they belong to something larger. Sometimes their "friends" invite them to become a member of a gang and there can be some intimidation, which plays right into their emotional feeling of weakness.
Once they grow up a little, emotionally that is, many of the former gang members recognize that it's not a good idea and they try to leave. At that point, some gangs have a "no exit" policy and life gets difficult.
It really is unfortunate that so many of them believe in the rhetoric of the gang members. It's partially a result of the warehousing practices of the public school system that end up not teaching anything of value leaving these kids to learn nonsense from other kids.
While it's true that a value oriented education system will not be able to save them all, it would certainly be able to do better than what we have now.

∙ 14y agoMany teens join gangs every year because there influenced by others.They use it to be cool and let everyone know if you mess with them they will have many people looking for them...Basically they try to be cool and act tough.Many people to join gangs have to do stuff that you will never imagined in your life and ur forced to do it...And it may be cool for a while but most people end up in a lot of trouble with violence and drugs.And many people end up regreting everything they do or did.But its to late to go back now..Also Because of what they do they could put people they care about in danger.Many people try to convince you to be in a gang but really they are only convinceing you to get in trouble and if they really care any about you they would keep you out.Gangs only make people think you are stupid.

∙ 5y agofeeling alone or not loved causes most teens to venture or trying to be cool peer pressure is also a thing there are many different reasons the factors which cause teens to join gangs is the thoughts which can make them feel better
because the gang people are the one who is always teesing and making fun of you or hit you
