Why do people like certain kinds of food and dislike other kinds? In: Food and Cooking |
[Edit] |
Serveral issues are involved. Culture and education are the most important. If your mother teaches you that acid is a bad flavor, it'll be probably that you dislike acid flavors; of course, you're not only educated by your mother, and you can learn from a tv commercial that acid flavors are great.
Beside this factors, experiences are also very important. Usually our first impression when knowing something for the very first time is unreplaceable. Bad experiences whit food can make us hate it, while good ones will probably make us love it. Our body and genetics, finally represent an important factor. If you can't tolerate lactose, it's quite probably that you dislike milk.
In addition, we are "hard-wired" to like sweet foods and high-fat foods because in pre-historic times when food was scarce, survival depended on storing up energy in the form of fat in the body. As such, we are always happy to find deep-fried, sauted, sugared or otherwise high-calorie fare.
