Why do people mistake wiccan for devil worshippers?

[Edit]

Answer

Presumably because someone who Knew What He Was Talking About told them so. Many people seem to think that the pentacle - a five-pointed star surrounded by a circle; a symbol frequently associated with Wicca and paganism in general - is a Satanic symbol, though it carries no overtly Satanic connotation.
