Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

[Edit]
Have you heard a chinese proverb? If you want a bigger picture, take a step back (or something like this? - please improve this quote and provide source)

I think all humans have a need to look at the big picture - whether we want to call it, view from the top of a tall building or taking the big picture in - this trait makes people go up tall buildings. When one person is willing to pay and do something others do it too - I wonder about this - haven't you noticed (or paid 2 quarters or a dollar) how people put money into those timed binocular things that are fixed on top of tall buildings to peer out at distant things?

'Cause people are too lazy to go to the actual places on the ground.
