What are some reasons as to why children play violent video games?

What you are really asking for is free psychiatric advice for your Buddy,who is playing those games and - is he mentally deranged because he loves playing them? Being able to get involved and "into" a good movie is like being there. To get "into" a violent video game and be a "participant" is thrilling. This is called entertainment. Both movies and violent Video Games are fantasies meant to juggle one's emotions for various mental satisfactions. They want to make you come back and play again. When the movie is over or the violent game is over a person is let down to the reality of everday life and routines. Everyday life can be as exciting as the movies or the video games. You never know what will happen next.

∙ 16y agoFor the same reason kids have the urge to see rated R movies. They see it as cool and mature, and in their mind what they are doing or playing is already better then games that are more suited to their age for this reason.

∙ 12y agoVideo games have violence because that is what appeals to the gamers, mostly. A large portion of games, not all of the games, have violence in them due to the fact that everyone finds violence exciting. So people make more violent games

∙ 14y agoThe superficial answer would be that violent video games are exciting. For a deeper psychological analysis I can tell you that kids are trying to learn about the world that they are living in, and trying to prepare themselves for adulthood and to become adults. They see that violence is of fundamental importance in our world. Even when we are not being violent, our peaceful existence is made possible by the threat of violence. The armed police and the even more heavily armed military stand on guard, protecting us. Without violence or at least the threat of violence, we are defenseless, and various predators, human or animal, will take advantage of that. Kids discover this quite early in life, and are therefore very interested in violence. Video games give at least the illusion that they are capable of violence and therefore are powerful, important people who will be able to hold their own in a competitive and dangerous world.

People say violent video games can be bad for your health, that is somewhat true. If you sit or lay down playing video games a day you can gain more weight because you aren’t moving around. Yet those are some people's jobs they sit down and make or even test video games all day long. I believe that if you just take the time to learn how long and hard it is to make those games you will see that it’s not easy. So next time you say that it’s bad for you to just sit and play video games, just remember that it is someone's job.

This doesn't mean thatadults won't play video games. It simply means that they won't act it out. If the do, then they are a really pathetic adult.
