Why do people believe in global warming?

A:The experts in the field are the climate scientists, Many of them agree that global temperatures are rising and that human activity was significant in this process. Most of the published information in the field goes toward proving this theory, to the point that it has become accepted world wide as fact. B:People believe in global warming because they trust the scientists in the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), or because they have studied the science behind climate change. Or a combination of both. C:Because people are gullible. The global warming zealots try to tell us that there has been 4 tenth of a degree increase in temperature in the last 120 years. That is supposed to prove to us that global warming is not only real but that it is caused by man and that we are supposed to panic.

People should start to think for themselves and not just buy the global warming zealot's line hook line and sinker. Look at a recording thermometer from the 1800s. They didn't even measure in tenths of a degree. They didn't have digital thermometers back then.

Also did you know that those same so called scientist that are trying to panic people about global warming now were trying to panic us with global cooling in the 70s.

D:Personally I believe in global warming because I can see how much CO2 we humans bring into the air and in high school I did a project on CO2 And I saw how much influence it had on the temperature

Also most scientists and people who I think know a lot about this subject believe in global warming. It's mainly conspiracy theorists and extremist religious people who don't believe in global warming.

The simple answer is that there is credible evidence that over the last 100 years that average temperatures on land and in the oceans have risen. You only need to look at the arctic ice pack to see the changes.

There is a wide range of evidence for global warming. This includes

• Basic physics tells us that carbon dioxide absorbs infrared radiation and retransmits it in a random direction. So some infrared radiation from the earth's surface is sent back down instead of continuing into space. The higher the concentration of CO2 the more radiation is returned. This in turn traps more heat at the earth's surface.
• Temperatures have been rising since the Industrial Revolution and are continuing to rise at present (of course the rise is not continuous there are other factors which create short term variations up and down but the trend is constant)
• Paleontological studies show that previous variations in earths temperature which were initially caused by minor variations in the earth's orbit were boosted by increases in CO2.
• Warming is most intense in the Arctic which is what mathematical climate models predict would be the effect of CO2 induced global warming.

Most scientists who have reviewed the evidence and examined the climate models have become convinced that increasing earth's greenhouse gas concentrations does in fact lead to increasing temperature. Scientists don't really "believe" in this as a matter of faith so much as they accept it as a provisional finding of science. If a preponderance of evidence were accumulated to suggest the models were in error, they would happily (in most instances) reject the models.

It is a reasonable conclusion--if you pile more blankets on your bed you tend to get warmer. But science isn't satisfied with mere human logic and reasoning--the assumptions must be tested and confirmed. And to the best that science can currently demonstrate, our consumption of fossil fuels IS heating up our planet, very rapidly.
