People do this simple to make the salt or any other ingredients such as pepper and others spread around on the chips. They want it to spread so that it doesn't stay in one place. sometimes people say it is good luck.

∙ 12y agoIn shipping and handling, a lot of the seasonings are shaken to the bottom of the bag, If you open the bag upside down, you will redistribute the flavorings back to the potato chips.
