That could have many answers, I think that a lot of people wish to communicate in the language of the countries that they visit. Also it is easier to understand French culture and litterature if you are able to work from original texts...
Not everyone on this planet has (or feels) an obligation to be fluent in English based languages.
Maybe I should return your question:"why do you not wish to learn French?" as far as I can tell some people are curious and like to open their horizons.

∙ 12y agoThis is certainly untrue nowadays, and French schools have improved greatly the teaching, the language of choice being English. In the past France had a vast French-speaking empire, and French was spoken in many parts of the world (it still is), reducing the need for the French to learn foreign languages. In the same way, lots of English speakers today don't bother learning a foreign language, thinking that everybody understands English (a visit in any east-European country would show that speaking Russian is a far better choice there).
