PHOTOS produced by a professional photo processing laboratory or a photo shop are made by using special photographic processes, photographic chemicals and special light-sensitivephotographic papers that, when 'developed', retain their colors for a long time.

PHOTOS MADE on a home printer/copier are produced using a totally different method. It is a printing process, and uses inks rather than light-sensitive papers to make the pictures. It is possible to buy a home copier that will print 'photo quality' photos, but they will still only be 'prints' using inks and shiny paper rather than the superior quality photos produced by using light-sensitive materials and 'photographic processes' that are used a shop, studio or laboratory.

ONE PROBLEM with using expensive 'photo-quality' home copiers is that they must be used often and regularly to prevent the inks drying out in the machines, and thus their use is generally uneconomic. Also the results are invariably inferior to professionally produced 'prints' that are made using the 'photographic' method.

SO KEEN AMATEURS, and even many professional photographers will often use a professional studio to produce 'prints' of their cherished photos, especially if their photographs are going to be exhibited or sold.

If something is copied on a copier does the machine keep record of the copy?

No. A copier does not keep a copy of material that is copied. When a copier makes a copy of your material, the light shines on thousands of little electromagnets. It then uses those thousands of little electromagnets to hold the ink. After it has applied that ink to the page, it turns off those magnets and your copy disappears from the machine.

Is it safe to refill a copier cartridge with inkjet ink?

It is not recommended to fill a copier cartridge with inkjet ink. The main reason is that while computer printers use ink in a liquid form, copiers ink is in the form of a fine powder known as toner. Copier toner cartridges are also much bigger than printer ink cartridges so even if it were OK to interchange the ink types, it would be super expensive to substitute copier toner with printer ink.

Is ink cheaper or more expensive between a laser copier and ink jet copier?

Typically speaking, laser printers offer a lower cost per page. The cartridges cost more, but they last a lot longer. That being said, some extremely efficient ink jets can be marginally less expensive for color output than certain low cost laser printers with expensive cartridges. Also, bear in mind that if you're doing enough printing that ink cost is a significant factor, laser printers can also typically handle a lot more printing in a day or month than an inkjet. Ink is cheaper on a ink jet copier. Ink jet ink is generally vegetable based dye that is injected into the paper while a laser copier's ink is a dusty material with magnetic properties that gets permanently attached to a paper. The magnetic properties of laser copier ink make it more expensive .
