∙ 13y agoOn most modern tanks the outside threads are normal, but the threads on the inside are reversed. This is the case with most 20lb grill tanks, other propane tank sizes may be different.

But vehicles that I have been associated with that had two tanks had only one external pump. the way i could tell was the way the tanks were switched. There is an overfill valve inside the tank. It is a component entirely separate from the external valve that a user controls. Let a propane company sort it out. They're the experts, and they want you to come in so they can help. They live for stuff like this because they are professionals.
