I, too, have heard that bunnies can only hop, not walk. However, I've seen all of my pet rabbits take at least a step or two multiple times - when they are startled, for example, by my neighbor's dog barking, they have often lowered themselves close to the ground and taken a couple steps in preparation for breaking into a run.

rabbits hop instead of running because there back feet are so large that they have to hop.

Rabbits have evolved their feet for various purposes. Think about it, in the wild they must dig, run, thump (warn of danger), stand up on their hind feet without falling over, and possibly fight. Their back feet play a critical role in many of these aspects. By having larger hind feet, they can't run like most other animals, so hopping is easier and fits their lifestyle better.

Bunnies don't limp, they hop. If your bunny is limping, it has been injured. Bring it to a vet who has experience and knowledge in rabbits immediately. Either the injury is serious (broken bones), and the rabbit won't recover on its own and will only get more and more unwell until it dies; or, the injury is minor (sprained muscle or tendons) and the rabbit might recover on its own, except it needs pain management (medication) to do that. See the related question below for more help.

Kangaroos' legs are specially designed for hopping and bounding. They cannot run or walk normally because their legs are unable to move independently for walking, and the long hind feet are structured for long leaps rather than running. The only time a kangaroo can move its legs independently is when it swims. It can walk, but only by pulling itself forward by its forelegs, dragging its hind legs and tail behind it.

Kangaroos have large, strong tendons in their hind legs which act as "springs". Every time a kangaroo's feet hits the ground, some of the energy is shifted to the rubber, stored there, then recycled in an elastic bounce. Kangaroos are able to travel long distances at a high speed, expending very little energy.
