Scientists do not 'believe in' theories. They gather evidence for them and build them up with experiment and observation or reject them if there be contradictory evidence. The Big Bang Theory is accepted due to the presence of much evidence, such as:

Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson's telescope's hissing, a remnant of radiation from a massively hot early Universe (see Bill Bryson's account in A Short History of Nearly Everything). The static on a television is also a remnant presumably of a hot early state to the Universe.

The red-shift of galaxies, implying expansion of the Universe, which extrapolated backwards and combined with General Relativity implies a dense, space-time warped, hot, small beginning to the Universe.

The darkness of the night sky (see Marcus Chown's Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You for an account) which is a darkness, not a bright glow which would occur if light had been pouring from all corners of the Universe towards Earth for infinite time (more of a hint at a finite age to the Universe rather than a direct inference of a Big Bang).

The ratio of hydrogen to helium in the Universe.

Or, some contradictory somewhat non-partial evidence:

Because the BB easily explains several facts about our Universe -- cosmic background radiation and element ratios -- that are impossible to explain by other hypotheses.

The oldest known stars are just a couple billion years younger than the measured date of the BB. As we examine galaxies far away (ie, earlier in the life of our Universe), the more frequently we see "young" galaxies. Both of these facts are easy to explain with a BB but very difficult to explain if our Universe were infinite in age.

Scientists accept Big Bang Cosmology (BBC) for the same reason they accept a heliocentric solar system (HSS). Both BBC and HSS make specific, observable predictions about what we would see if we looked at our cosmos. And, in both cases, what we observe is exactly what is predicted.

For example, a HSS predicts that we would see phases in Venus as it orbits our Sun; while a geocentric solar system (ie, our Sun and other planets go around our Earth) predicts we would not see phases. When Galileo Galilei observed phases in Venus, he concluded that a HHS was true.

BBC predicts the following:

1) All distant galaxies will be red-shifted, and the size of the red shift will depend on the distance between us and those galaxies.

2) There exists an isotropic microwave background in our Universe, that has a spectrum exactly like a blackbody of temperature 2.7K

3) The ratio of hydrogen to helium in all parts of our Universe will be about 90% hydrogen, 10% helium.

4) The ratio of long-lived radioactive isotopes to their decay products will fail to show any of the former having begun decay more than 10 billion years ago.

5) No white dwarf star will be older than 12 billion years.

If our Universe was as Einstein assumed it was, we would not observe (1) -- but we do. (2) and (3) are irrefutably true, easy to explain with BBC, and impossible to explain with any other cosmology. (4) and (5) are also irrefutably true, and impossible to explain in any way OTHER than a Universe with an age on the order of 12 billion years.

What discovery destroyed the steady state theory?

For most cosmologists, the refutation of the steady-state theory came with the discovery of the cosmic microwave background radiation in 1965, which was predicted by the Big Bang theory

How many people believe in the big bang theory?

It depends, because some might say 'scientists'. But not all scientists believe in this theory. Also, there are those who believe in a similar idea to the Big Bang, but it is not refered to as 'The Big Band Theory.'

Is every thing in this universe is matter?

4 billion years ago there was nothing; then everything exploded into existence and the universe was born, but a new generation of cosmologists are questioning this theory. Cosmologists have created a replica of the universe by using equations; it's called the standard model of cosmology and it's the reason behind the Big Bang theory; however, this model is now doubted. Professor Alan Guth's theory challenges the Big Bang by stating that the universe started out small, allowing the temperature to even out everywhere, before expanding on a massive scale.

What are myths about the Big Bang THEORY?

The Big Bang Theory is a widly accepted theory in the scientific world because of the fact that it has less loopholes than others made to oppose it.I believe 1-2 loopholes are contained in The Big Bang Theory.

Who is the creator who created the world?

Well, I believe that God created the earth, but another theory that I don't believe is the big bang theory and evolution.

Was it the big bang that created are world?

Implying that you believe in The Big Bang Theory then yes our "World" aka Earth was created from the products of The Big Bang.
