LSD stimulates the 5-HT2A receptors in the brain (it is a 5-HT2A agonist). this 5-ht2a stimulation reduces the filter of information that passes into your brain (serotonin determines what information is important and not important ). This filter is there because the brain can't process all this sensory information all at once. For example, when you look at a waterfall you will not notice every single detail of that waterfall unless you conciously look at each detail ( you wont notice every single ripple in the water below, every single rock, every vine on these rocks, every single aspect of every wave ,the sound of waves breaking, birds chirping ,etc.), this is because your brain usually (while not tripping) filters much of the sensory information because it is not capable of processing all of it, the brain is only be capable of understanding a "summary" of what is really there and so your brain will interpret the scenery as "there is a waterfall that makes a roaring sound with some mist and some grey rock behind it. below it are waves)" instead of "there is a waterfall that makes a roaring sound with a lot of mist droplets above me , some droplets are reflecting more sunlight than others, some mist droplets are changing shape as they approach the ground. there is grey rock behind the falls, there are 3 vines going through the rocks on the left side of the falls, the vines have white flowers and leaves that are small and shaped like an oval. i hear each individual wave below the falls crashing into the rocks , i also hear birds chirping.". LSD reduces this filter by 5-ht2A stimulation and this causes your brain to be overloaded with sensory information (more information gets through). your brain can't manage all this information and so the information ends up getting distorted. senses may become overlapped(tasting colors smelling sound, etc.) and objects may transform shape, etc. LSD will make sensory stimulations more intense, for example you may notice colors more while you are on LSD. you may notice sounds in music (such as drum beats found in the music that you didnt notice before) that you didn't know were there, etc. When i take Morning Glory seeds (which contain LSA which is similar to LSD) i notice background sounds in music more. LSD is probably the safest drug , it does not damage brain cells , it does not usually cause flashbacks (flashbacks are rare), it is rare for it to cause schizophrenia, it does not cause addiction, LSD is virtually impossible to overdose on (you would need to take thousands of hits ), it is impossible to become addicted to (look it up if you dont believe me) , it does not deplete serotonin because it is not a serotonin releasing agent (exstasy is a serotonin releasing agent, LSD is an agonist of the 5-ht2a receptor) , it does not deplete dopamine because it does not affect dopamine, it does not remain in spinal fluid for years (the myth of LSD remaining in spinal fluid for years is not only false but it is laughable: LSD is an unstable(fragile) molecule that is rapidly destroyed by the substances in the body, LSD is so fragile that it will be destroyed by the small amount of chlorine in drinking water if someone leaves it exposed to drinking water for too long, LSD can be destroyed by heat and so it must be stored in the freezer if you want it to keep its potency for more than a few weeks. LSD would not last in the body for years. ) , it does not make people jump off of skyscrapers , etc. Alcohol is far worse for the brain than LSD , yet is legal.

Lots of things. Many drugs can cause you to hallucinate, either prescription or illegal. A mental disorder such as Bipolar disorder or schizophrenia usually has hallucinations as a symtom. If you go for days without sleep, I can guarantee you will hallucinate.

I dont suggest you do any drugs unless prescribed by a doctor especially shrooms. They make you see things because they are messing with your mind playing tricks on you, they are not the only drugs to do that.
