Well, they don't bite off pieces and chew them, they swallow things whole. So they can swallow their prey whole. Certain snakes eat mice or small rodents, and eggs. They swallow these without chewing. The only reason they have teeth is for defense and to inject their venom into their prey.

Not all snakes do. Some are constrictors that crush their prey but the poisonous ones use it as a defence/offense weapon.

Cats have fangs because domestic cats were bred out of wild cats. Wild cats hunt and their fangs help them do it.
