When it comes to Pro Wrestling, why do people like it? The same reason people like to watch Ballet. Why are people dancing around in tutu's entertaining? That's not real either.
A good pro wrestling match is basically a stunt show mixed with theatre. A good wrestling should have you forgetting that it isn't legit throughout the 20 minute (the average length of a pro wrestling match as opposed to the WWE's 2 minutes) duration of the match.

As it was stated above, the match results are predetermined, but the action is real. Take it from me, I am a wrestler and those moves hurt. I doesn't matter how 'padded' the mat is, it hurts. And steel chair shots don't hurt that bad. They sound like they hurt, and look like they hurt, but its not that bad.

Look at the name: World Wrestling Entertainment. We watch it purely for the entertainment. Women have their chick flicks, their bubble-gum pop songs, their soap operas, and stuff like that. Men, however, have sports. And the WWE is categorized as "sports entertainment". It's not officially a sport, but its origin traces back to the beginning, when it was the "sport of kings", I believe. Therefore, you can say it is a sport, though officially it is not.
So, long story short, the WWE appeals to us because it is entertainment. Not because we're turned on by sweaty men in tights grabbing each other, no sir: it's the fun of it all.
(btw I apologize if I offended any female wrestling fans, i know there are a lot lol)

That last remark was sooo offensive. But I'll give you credit even if your analogy was tasteless and sexist.
A better analogy would be to compare WWE to sitcoms, films, or novels. It's fiction even if parts of it are real or valid, yet millions and millions of people watch those sitcoms, spend hard earned cash and even wait in line for hours for cinema tickets regularly, or buy the latest bestseller the second it hits the shelves.
Or better yet compare Pro wrestling with magicians or illusionists. People know ''their'' acts are all "smoke and mirrors" but that doesn't detract from entertainment factor.
You get your entertainment where you will, and let others find their own. It's no one's business if you choose wrestling over football. If they don't like it, that's their problem.
