Well, I don't think that there is any country where 100% of the people speak one language. There are different people and different cultures in all countries, and people travel and re-locate, and you can usually find people who speak many languages no matter where you are. However, in terms of an "official" language... some countries only have one for a couple of reasons. One reason is purely financial. It costs a LOT of money to publish everything in two languages. Another reason is the Demographics of the country. If almost all of your citizens speak the same language, then that tends to be the official language. Some countries are less diverse, language-wise than others. Not that there aren't other languages, but just that fewer people represent different languages.
The main reason monolingual societies exist is isolation.
There are about 5 countries in the world that are monolingual, and all are tiny islands except for North Korea, which is politically isolated.
Major monolingual countries include:
There are also about 10 politically dependent territories that are monolingual, including Tristan Da Cunha.

It is an international language, spoken as the main language in many countries and also recognised in many other countries. Being able to speak it will help you if you travel a lot or deal with people from other countries that don't speak your language. It is also the international language for many things, like for pilots. It is always useful to have a language that many people around the world will understand, and English is one of those languages.

Some can. Some only speak one language. Models from Europe, South America, and other countries where English typically isn't the first language generally have to learn English on top of their native language.
Because that is what the people speak there, and they spoke those languages even before Switzerland was founded. Switzerland has clear language boundaries running through it. On one side they speak one language; on the other side they speak a different language. In some countries the international border corresponds to the language boundary. In the case of Switzerland it does not.

Actually most people in Europe, not just Switzerland, speak more than one language, in fact most countries in the world are that way. America is the weird one in that most Americans speak only one language.
That depends on the countries. Some colonizing countries imposed their language on the countries they conquered, and some didn't.
