It is possible to have a tooth turn dark because there was no permanent tooth underneath. Mine was a baby tooth and all I was ever told by any dentist was, "You have a baby tooth, with no tooth under it, so I'd recommend leaving it alone unless it gives you problems." It remained and was a healthy tooth until my mid forties. At that time several teeth weakened but I was told that was due to chemotherapy and heavy medications, so the discolored or dark tooth may have lasted longer without the other complications.

Pretty much I had trama and I was told only to be worried if my tooth started turning colour (which it is now turning brown) and if it does then I might need a root canal because it had become infected.

∙ 14y agoSome people's teeth turn yellow due to smoking, I don't smoke and personally don't know a lot on the subject but smoking for a long period of time or having high amounts of cigarettes a day can lead to yellow teeth.
Yellow teeth is also caused by decay and not brushing your teeth. Eating too many sweets/sugary foods can also lead to yellow teeth and especially if you don't brush your teeth.
