Why do people think ghosts give evidence for life after death?

Ghosts have never been proven to exist, so it is intellectually responsible and prudent to conclude they do not exist.

In order to make sense of our world, we must use the scientific method, not spooky stories, opinions, hoaxes or outright lies by people who need attention or need to feel special. Other believers may be uneducated, superstitious or just too young and naive.

The Scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry must be based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. A scientific method consists of the collection of data through observation and experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.

Scientific researchers propose hypotheses as explanations of phenomena, and design experimental studies to test these hypotheses. These steps must be repeatable in order to dependably predict any future results. Theories that encompass wider domains of inquiry may bind many independently derived hypotheses together in a coherent, supportive structure. This in turn may help form new hypotheses or place groups of hypotheses into context.

Among other facets shared by the various fields of inquiry is the conviction that the process must be objective to reduce biased interpretations of the results. Another basic expectation is to document, archive and share all data and methodology so they are available for careful scrutiny by other scientists, thereby allowing other researchers the opportunity to verify results by attempting to reproduce them. This practice, called full disclosure, also allows statistical measures of the reliability of these data to be established.

In summation: For something to exist it has to be proven. This is how we escaped the dark ages - using reason and logic.So, for now, ghosts do not exist.

Another "Answer"Some people believe in ghosts because they believe that a person's spirit can remain on earth after death. To believe this you would have to disagree that heaven exists, because when a person dies his soul (or spirit) immediately goes to heaven. So you can only believe in either ghosts or heaven. Remember, though that ghost are usally associated with a cruel or sudden death and that might stop a persons spirit from going to heaven.

i disagree with the assessment of the one above me. many believe in both, for a ghost is a spirit with unfinished things here on earth. once they completed it they then can move on to the after life.

as for why, some believe because they can/have seen them/ feel them.

they think that they give off this evidence, becuase they are something that we don't see a lot, (or maybe you do) but sometimes there have been ghost sitings at graveyards and since people get buried there, most people think of ghosts as the living dead or signs that there is a life after death.

One reason that people believe in life after death (otherwise known as the 'survival' hypothesis) is that they have experienced receiving information from those they know to be dead. These experiences may come in the form of dreams or as waking apparitional experiences. Apparitional experiences can appeal to any of the senses, although they are often visual in nature. It is not uncommon for the apparition to interact with the witness and in doing so provide truthful information that can be validated.

While many apparitions are actually often attributable to living people, those of the deceased are the most often reported and discussed. Certainly, an interaction with a relative known to be deceased in which they communicate truthful and useful information would cause most anyone to believe in survival of bodily death.
