Why do some people consider having a cat declawed cruelty to animals?

[Edit]

It Prevents Normal Function

Cats don't just use claws to scratch and swipe. They use it to grip. Animals run off instincts, and actions such as jumping and climbing would be negatively altered.

An alternative is to "clip" the claws. This is not an expert opinion, but I was told that as long as you don't clip past the pink-ish "veins" in the claw, your cat will do just fine. If in the case that you do clip too far, your cat could possibly bleed to death.

The Cruelty of Declawing

The term "declawing" implies the removal of the claws, but it is a misnomer. Declawing is not merely the removal of the claws. Rather, it is a series of amputations. The last bone of each of the ten front toes is removed, and tendons, nerves, and muscles that allow for normal function of the paw are severed. An analogy in human terms would be cutting off each finger at the last joint.

Please go to the link below "declawing is NOT cruel" to find out accurate and sincerely honest factual information regarding declawing.

For those who have considered it, but frightened or called sadistic and cruel you'll be glad to learn it is not cruel and you are not being a sadist. You are just a person that realizes just as we human beings have to make compromises on our body to live in a home and society, so to do cats. Which live many times longer with us than in the wild. The various problems people claim are due to declawing a cat later in life (arthritis Etc.) are assumptions, not proved, and finally occur in cats with claws, and honestly to be expected.

Cats living with humans live several times longer than by themselves and arthritis, foot problems are only one of the myriad of problems older cats experience. Blaming the arthritis on declawing in cats later in life is illogical makes no sense at all, unless ONLY declawed cats had arthritis. Any cat can get arthritis with or without claws. In fact any cat just like humans that gets really old, has problems.

Please know that the link provided 'declawing is NOT cruel' the web site does have some factual errors as does the first answer. The best course of action would be to read all you can on the subject, pro and con, and speak with others who have had the procedure done on their cats, and do what is best for yourself and your furry loved one.

well, if "declawing is NOT cruel" then why dont i go over to your house and cut off each of your fingers at the last joint? how would you feel personally then? its very obvious that it is infact cruelty when you think about it in that prospect. if you wouldnt like it if someone did that to you, dont you think your furry friend would feel the same?
