Daylight savings time was originally suggested by Benjamin Franklin in the early 1800's. Daylight savings time was later invented in 1908. It was originally designed in order to save electricity because people would use more electricity as the daylight time was shorter.

It depends on the political time zone that you are in. Many countries have the concept of daylight saving time, which means that at some point in the spring, clocks are set ahead, and at some point in the fall, clocks are set back. For example, in New York US, we are Eastern Standard Time right now, which is GMT-5. On March 13 of this year, we will change to astern Daylight Time, GMT-4, and we will change back to GMT-5 on November 6. Different countrys have different rules, and some don't change at all. You will need to check the rules for your own country and time zone.

the clocks go back in the autumn to accomodate the farmers in the U.K , the more daylight the farmers have then the more crops can be produced, that is the main reason, however i suspect that having the schoolchildren go to school during daylight opposed to darkness would be a lot safer and would reduce the number of road accidents incurred at this time, these are the main reasons for the clocks going back in the UK. it was first introduced during the first world war by both U.K & Germany to conserve energy needed for the war effort.

WRONG! the clocks go back and forth because there is not exactly 24h in a day in 23.(something) so when they move it forward/back they are putting time closer to what its supposed to be.

Completely wrong... I just created an account to put this straight, because wrong information for everyone to see is just not right... If you do not know the answer please refrain from posting.

Think with me, if I am in a country that in fact adopts the Daylight Saving Time (Acronym: DST), and yes, not every country in the world has this "clock forward, clock backwards" thing, I just advance time 1h or back the time 1h. It's not 1h something minutes (as should be if you wanted to "put time in place"), it is exactly 1 hour, no more, no less. It's just a way to have more daylight in the afternoon!

Now regarding the fact that a day is not exactly 24h, that's why you have leap years every 4 years and every 400 years, not every 100, although 100 is a multiple of 4 (2000 was a leap year because its a multiple of 400, so 2100 will not be a leap year and we will have 8 years in a row without a leap year), and that is the mechanism to put time where it's supposed to be. Have 365 day years or 366 day years.
