Why is a government necessary?

We need only read the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution to understand why a government is needed: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." We need government to keep the territory held together (more perfect union). We need government to protect us from law breakers (establish justice). We need government to keep our day-to-day lives stable and safe (domestic tranquility). We need government to protect us from foreign invasions (provide for the common defense). We need government to help the exchange of money, goods, and trade with other countries (promote the general welfare). The purpose of a government is to provide for the safety and protection of the citizens. It protects the nation from foreign and domestic enemies and violence, provides services like post office, fire protection, state and local police, armed forces, and regulates things like interstate commerce and trade with other nations. A government also has the obligation to protect the rights of the citizens, though not all governments do that. A national government must protect the rights of citizens and of states' rights. The government's functions are to provide social order, security, public services, and economic systems for the citizens.

A government is the political entity that exercises power in a state. It is the entity whic makes the decisions concerning all aspects of life in a country. Despite of whether the President has powers like in the USA or less powers like in Greece, the government is the body which deals with all the everyday politics and critical decisions.

Government is necessary to maintain a measure of control, with some sort of 'system' that a majority have agreed upon. They also regulate the schools, businesses, utilities, fire department, airlines, trains, roads and highway systems, hospitals and other public utilities that are necessary for most to maintain a certain standard of living.

Someone has to be in charge of things when we sleep at night. ---- Governments provide things for people that people can't usually do very well for themselves individually, such as providing security and protection (including protection from each other by laws and law enforcement) and supplying an infrastructure for services like roads and bridges, water and sewage systems, firefighting, mail delivery, etc. It collects money to pay for them, in the form of taxes.

We need a government because government protects our lives and property by maintaining laws and orders they maintain peace in a society if there was no government we would all be busy defending ourselves and we would not be able to work or study

Government is needed because it is the institution through which the people are able to maintain order, provide public services, and enforce decisions that are binding on all members of society. Without a government, the basic rights of the people might not be protected. As the Declaration states, governments are instituted in order to protect the rights of all people, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Governments also protect the nation from foreign or domestic enemies. And the government protects the nation from attack from abroad or from within the nation's boundaries.

Without a government of some sort, there would be no way to organize millions of people in even a slightly productive way.

Because without the goverment the world would fall apart. Take N. Korea or Afganistan. They don't have a good secure goverment therefore nobody is happy.
