I believe it's because women are constantly thinking ahead, planning, and in some way needing approval or understanding of who's listening. Depending on their situation, they might be at home w/the kids all day and are dying for adult conversation. I have know women and men who just talk sooooooooooooo much.
- While I love the above answer, I believe one could gain a great deal of understanding about this topic by reading the book 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' by Dr. John Gray. In it, Dr. Gray addresses the fact that part of a woman's make-up is a geniune need for meaningful communication. This is not to say that men do not have this same need, but apparently, women have a greater need in this area. I believe women talk so much because they are seeking fullfillment of the need for meaningful communication.

I think women talk so much because its in their genetic makeup especially in this society today. However as being an electrician I have met women who work equally as hard as men yet do not talk much, they understand the job take pride in it and feel no need to validate with words. Women are social creatures so are gay men, it may be a lack of testosterone Im not sure. I have seen women who talk a great game but would not have a clue on how to say "build something". Men are conditioned to work hard and talking is not a part of the process of getting a job done. When I was a marine and someone would be talking a seargent would say "too much jaw jacking" Its just the way it is, women talk because it helps them express themselves, men work hard because seeing fruits of their labor is more satisfying.
