Why do you give presents to each other at Christmas?

• we give gifts as a symbolic gesture of remembering the gifts that were given to Jesus by the three wise men as well as in thanks to God for the gift of Jesus.

• To show the love and care that you have for others.

• Media hype and Marketing ploys! Exchanging gifts has nothing to do with Christmas. It was a pagan belief and is still practiced by Christians today. It was a bargaining ploy between the Christians and the Pagans when bloodshed was intense between the two powers. 95% of Christians believe it is because of the wise men giving Christ gifts on his day of birth. But the wise men did not get to Bethlehem until a few years later. At that time Christ was a toddler.
  

• We give gifts because we wish to show appreciation for another person. It is a pity if it becomes a meaningless ritual. It is possible to ignore the commercial hype surrounding gift-giving and retain the simple joy of giving for the sake of it, whether or not you receive back or if your gift is of great monetary value. For Christians, it can be a reflection of the gift given by God to man, which is at the heart of the celebration as we know it.
