That is not an accurate answer. Amy likes Sonic because he always comes to her rescue and save her no matter what the cause. She is, what I like to call, a "crazed" fangirl of Sonic. She also like Shadow, but only as a friend, though some people think differently.

When Professor Gerald was working on the Ultimate Life form project, he and his reaserchers called the task Project: Shadow because of the sarcasm involved as you cannot create a Shadow since it was something that never existed. But in Sonic X Japanese version, Maria states that Shadows purpose in his creation was to protect and watch over the people like a "Shadow". But Sonic X isn't canon.
