In some cases the mother cat knows the kitten is dying, such as the runt of the litter, and she abandons it to give her other kittens a better chance of survival. Another reason a mother cat will abandon the kitten is caused by the mother being far too young to have a litter, and therefore abandons a kitten (or all of them) because she is overwhelmed or not know what to do.
There are several reasons a queen would abandon her kittens. The most common one is that the kittens are old enough to take care of themselves and the queen has weaned them off. Another reason may be the kittens have been disturbed by humans or predators, and the queen refuses to return to the kittens because of this. A third reason may be the queen hasn't abandoned them - she may simply be out hunting and planning on returning in a few hours. Finally, particularly with feral cats, the queen may have been injured, gotten sick or been killed and is physically unable to return to the kittens.
idk if your talking about when the kittens are first born but when they are first born and the mom cat neglects one of them that just means she knows its not strong and it wont surrive with out lots and lots of care from humans.
usually a mother takes a kitten away (neglect it) for several reasons:
That depends on what you want to do with them. You can either have them put down by your local vet or bring them up yourself. It is a lot of work, but totally worth it, I can assure you (our cat had kittens two times and we brought them up all by ourselves, she is a selfish b*tch, wouldn't feed them or anything).
To protect them.
Much like when she feels very threatened she will run off with them.
She is trying to protect them from whatever she feels is danger
Kitten
No, this will not happen. There are only a few, firmly defined, instances where the mother cat's instincts tell her to abandon or drive away her own kittens. How a mother cat treats her kittens is a function of what stage her hormones are in following the birth, combined with her environmental cues. If there are conditions of stress. the mother will drive away her kittens as they grow, so they can establish their own hunting territories. If there is something wrong with one of the kittens, the mother will abandon them so a doomed kitten will not use up resources that will not help them.
Because the kitten is unhealthy. Feel sorry for u that your cat has eaten her kitten :(
You can care for a scared abandon kitten by caressing it and giving it something to drink.
Yes, providing the kitten is fully weaned.
Yes. I have a cat that grew up from a kitten in the same house with her mother.
This really depends on the mother cat. Some cats will just wash their kitten until the smell is off, but there are a small amount of mothers that will abandon, or even eat, a kitten if she believes something is seriously wrong with it. However, this isn't common and most cats take very good care of their offspring.
none of your buisness so leave the mother alone :( p.s its cause of your scent on the kitten the mother think's it is not her's
Yes. But this will only work sometimes usually if the mother your giving the kitten to has lost one of her own.
It is normal behavior for a new mother cat. Keep away from the baby for now.
No.
Not really. The mother cat will usually eat the kitten placentas and will, as a result, get back a small amount of the protein she has expended in creating the kittens. But there is nothing special about the placentas, and depriving the mother cat of them will not hurt her.
