Venice is located in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea just off the coast of Italy. This part of the sea is generally a calm area but during storms the waves crash onto the main land of Venice causing floods. The storms haven't always had this effect on Venice. Before the island off the coast were able to hold back the storm water and keep Venice from flooding. Lately however, the Adriatic Sea has risen and the islands can no longer keep the water from entering Venice causing the floods. Also, when the floods come in, the soil under Venice become very swampy causing the city to sink into the ground a slight bit making it more susceptible to flooding.

Venice. Venice.
Venice has been flooded for a long time, so most of the city has canals instead of streets. As such they need the gondoliers, which have shallow drafts and can pass easily through the narrow canals, to get around.
Venice was also historically an independent nation and the capital of the Serenissima Venetian Republic for more than a thousand years and known because of this as the "Serenissima". Venice is world-famous for its canals it is built on an archipelago of 118 islands formed by about 150 canals in a shallow lagoon.I had been Italy last year and visited some places in Venice like Piazza San Marco, Grand Canal etc. and had joined a free walking tour with Freevenicecitytour.Every one should visit Venice once in life.
