Why does a car's temperature gauge go up when parked but not when driving?

no doubt about it air flowing through the radiator is what cools the antifreeze flowing through the engine ---no movement---no cooling---the guage will go up while standing still until a certain temperature is reached then the cooling fan will kick in and bring the coolant temp down ----turning off the a.c. won't really help as the cooling fan comes on automaticly when the a.c. is turned on----that being said the a.c. is a huge heat load to the engine but if the system is in good condition things should be under controlWhen your moving, more volume of air is going through the radiator than when your not moving.
temp going up when parked can usually be lessened by turning off the a/c or running engine above idle so as fan spins faster and suks more air thru radiator and over engine
