Many birds lay eggs without the presence of a mate, much the same as human females still have a menstrual cycle even if they don't have a sexual partner. Make sure that your cockatoo is getting sufficient calcium, and if she becomes a chronic layer, take her to a vet.

it will lay eggs with out a male at any time during breeding cycles.

Its like human women, they produce a egg from there ovary every month and they will only be fertile if there is a male.

With parrots they dont do it every month but only during spring/summer.

some macaws infact do lay all year round it depends on their climat. if they are indoors or in a climat controlled room they can/will lay all year round.

No. Parakeets are very similar to humans. Just like us, we need a mate in order to create a baby. Humans have sex so that their baby will have the parents genetic traits. So if a blue and green parakeet mate, their babies are most likely to be blue and green. Parakeets mate by getting on top of each other. Then, their butts will touch. At that point, both, the male and females genetic traits will go into the female's body, creating an egg.

Birds don't need a mate to lay eggs. The eggs aren't fertilized though. Basically, a bird egg is like the egg released into our wombs during a woman's time of the month. It's just that, with a bird, it actually lays the egg instead of keeping it in the womb. And if a male happens to be around, he'll fertilize the egg while it's coming out of the female's body.

But yeah. Birds lay eggs regardless of whether or not they have a mate. They just need a mate to fertilize the eggs.

(That's why hens lay eggs without the help of roosters.)

A female parakeet may go her whole lifetime without laying an egg. There are things that will trigger nesting behaviors such as presence of nesting materiel, long days, plentiful and varied foods and then eggs fertilized or not.

Do any male animals lay eggs?

No, it is not possible for a male bird to lay eggs. male birds are like human males and human males can't lay eggs. they can only help make fertilise an egg, and before it is laid. Well as you can see here female birds and human girls lay eggs or in other words get pregnat. But if your 'male' bird starts laying eggs mabey it's not a male, it's a female bird, but if your really positive that its a boy go see an animal doctor or check online for more infromation and then you can find out weather its a girl or boy or maybe befor you get a bird you should check its gender then you would know weather it lays eggs or not!

Can male macaws lay eggs?

Cockatoos are parrots, which are birds, and birds reproduce by laying eggs. A female cockatoo should lay eggs, but there are always reasons why a bird might not lay eggs. If it is a pet, it could be stressed, or the conditions simply may not be right. Alternatively, given that it is very hard to tell the difference between the male and female of many cockatoo species, there is a good chance that it is a male. No male bird lays eggs.
