We have had several male cats of different breeds, all were neutered. Most of these did not spray or were very discrete and we never caught them. Only one, a tuxedo, would spray around the boarder of the yard quite a lot. He was covering over where other cats had been or marking his territory with his scent. He would defend his yard from all strangers. He lived for 19 human years. I miss him.

If he is an indoor/outdoor cat, it may be skunk. Otherwise, you may try bathing him and cleaning his bedding.
