To dogs, carpet is somewhat like grass. It is soft, and can be torn up.
Naturally, dogs eat grass when they are sick or constipated, and so eating something like grass is because of their instincts.

∙ 11y agoIt is bad for a pet to eat carpet even when they are feeling well! Carpet is not acceptable for pets to eat under any circumstance. It is not a food. If your pet is chewing an area of carpet, buy something like bitter apple spray that tastes bad to pets. This should stop the pet from eating carpet. Pets should also be watched by a responsible owner and not allowed on their own in spaces where there are dangerous things for them to consume.
