∙ 15y agoHair loss is not confined to the scalp during chemotherapy. Reactions to chemotherapy differ just as cancers and people differ. My teenage son lost all of his hair during chemo: his scalp, eyebrows, facial hair, pubic hair, leg hair, back hair...everywhere! When his hair grew back in fully, the hair on his scalp was very soft like when he was a baby.

Healthy cells that divide rapidly include blood cells, stomach and bowels, hair and lining of your mouth. This leads to common side effects, such as hair loss and nausea. Other common side effects include anemia, mouth sores and low white and red blood cell counts.
Hair loss generally starts within 2-3 weeks of the treatment and it depends on the medicine or combination of medicines used because all chemotherapy drugs don't cause hair loss.

The reason you lose your hair during Chemotherapy treatment is because your hair follicles are fast growing cells, and Chemotherapy damages fast growing cells. Not all Chemotherapy treatment causes hair loss. Some just cause the hair to thin, while others result in dramatic hair loss. Occasionally, some people lose their hair when it is not expected too during treatment, while others do not lose their hair when it is expected too.
