back in the early 17th century with the discovery of artificial carbination a club was formed called the soda club for those who wanted to appreciate soda not for the sugar but for the texture. to coincide with this club a new soda was created to be known as club soda. coincidentally enough it was created by arthur club aswell although that's not the real origin of the name.
