Why does it take a registry scanner hours to scan the Wow6432Node registry keys in Vista x64?

Well, I've got a fix for you. I found this in my search for the answer a few months ago. There's a registry key that you delete that will fix this for all registry cleaners. Note that is only for Vista x64 versions. It should not affect Vista x32. Anyway, go here and check out the key to be deleted. I'm posting the link because there's a screenshot that shows you exactly which key to delete. Just a reminder (which will be on the page as well), make sure you back up your registry before you make any changes. Just click on export registry to a floppy, CD/DVD-ROM or USB key. That said, you shouldn't have any problems...it's very easy. Without further ado, here's your fix: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/73011-registry-cleaner-program-slow.html#post358018 One more thing. There are a few registry cleaners that have fixed this problem, without having to delete a reg key. There may be more, but there are two that I know of that have fixed it already, so you might want to hold off. I haven't seen any adverse effects from deleting this key, but I'm just giving you another alternative. One of the registry cleaners is a free one, called Wise Registry Cleaner, and they update the program often. http://www.wisecleaner.com/ Another one, which is not free, but they do have a free trial of the program, is actually in a suite and it's called TuneUp Utilities 2007: http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/ I've always found that you really need more than one reg cleaner to do the job properly.

same here

I would love to know why this happens as well, since I am experiencing the exact same thing with several registry cleaners

Not working here ! There are some keys that you can't remove, even in Safe Mode.
What's funny is that this key (WOW6432NODE) didn't exist before. After making some update ( Vista 64-bit here ), it suddenly shows up !
Searching registry before ( with Registry Workshop ) took few minutes ( approx. 160.000 keys ), now there are 22 ( !?? ) instances of WOW6432NODE key and more than 1.000.000 keys in search. Crazy, isn't it ?
