Best Answer

Best explanation would be that the discs are badly scratched and have been rendered unplayable, especially if the scratches are deep

What DVD PLAYER WILL PLAY all formats?

Depends on what you mean by "all formats". A BluRay player will play all commercial DVDs, music CDs, and BluRay DVDs, but may not play some compressed formats like avi, mp3 or mkv files. You need to check the specifications to find out what formats an individual machine will or will not play.

Does a Sony Blu-ray play 3d Blu-ray?

Bluray players are backwards compatible so they will play standard DVDs as well as Bluray discs. Note that although the DVD is being played by a Bluray player, it does not make it HD quality. Some bluray players will up-convert the standard definition image from 480 or 576 lines up to 1080 lines but although the format is HD, the image quality still remains standard definition.

Can you play DVDs on a blueray player?

It truly depends on the BRDVD player in question. Blue-Ray and DVD use different light wavelength for their lasers, and are not directly compatible (DVD and HD-DVD are). There are a few "dual-head" players that provide two laser sources, and hence can play both Blue-Ray and DVD/HDDVD discs. But, like I said, it depends on the player if it supports that functionality. It isn't that uncommon, though. On the PC market for example, 'combo' devices that combine DVD-burning abilities with Blu-Ray playback have existed for some time.

Do you need a special DVD player to play Blu-ray movies?

BluRay discs carry high definition television and therefore store data in a high density format. A standard definition DVD player will not recognise a BluRay disc and will simply report an error if one is loaded. On the other hand, a BluRay player will not only play BluRay discs but will also handle standard DVDs. Most will also recognise and play CD format discs. Most Bluray players will also down convert the HD signal from a BluRay disc so that it can be viewed on a standard definition television. In this case, of course, the image quality will be the same as any other standard definition signal. To benefit from the high definition signal, an HD television is also required.

Do portable CD players play the audio from DVDs like a computer?

Typically no, because the computer has the software to know to play the audio from it. Some DVDs do have separate audio tracks installed, which can be picked up by the CD player.

Why you can't play DVD's from Europe with a DVD player form U.S.?

ALL DVD's created are either burned with NTSC, which is what we use here in the US (All of the DVD players sold here are equipped to play NTSC-format DVD's) or with PAL, which is what they use in Europe. The DVD players in the US cannot play DVDs from Europe and vise versa because they are not formatted to play each kind of disc. There probably are some computer programs (which are pretty expensive) that can play a European DVD on a computer. But there is no way to play a European DVD on a normal DVD player in the US. ----- Next to the PAL/NTSC reason, DVDs (& BluRay's) have a zone number (retail and rental DVDs! A DVD player can (normally) only play the DVDs with the zone number from the region/country you bought it in. This regionalization is artificial and is due to a code put on, by the manufacturer. This is to preserve copyright for different countries. The DVD zone is mentioned on the backside of your cover and on your disc. You can also buy a DVD region 0 player which can play all regions but some DVDs are protected from these players. A list of the regions can be found on many websites eg. Wikipedia. Some DVD players can be converted to play all regions. This is a software patch sometimes invoked by special, secret, sequence of button pushes on the remote control. Generally cheaper, unbranded machines can do this. Google 'region hack' for the make of machine you have.

Where does it say region code on a DVD?

DVD region code is a to protect the DVD producer, so there are 6 regions in the world, and when you play DVDs, your player's region should be the same with your DVDs. But some palyer software can be region free DVD player software(Easy DVD Player)
