A bad camshaft can cause your engine to idle high and overheat. A fuel injector pump that needs to be adjusted can also cause the same problems.
Thermostat regulator is malfunctioning, water pump pulley could be bad, gas bubble in radiator hose.
check your fluids it is probably low on antifreeze and if it still does it change your thermostat that should fix the problem
With the engine OFF & cold the fan should not turn more then a 1/4 turn or less. If it spins more then a turn that could be part of the overheating problem. I would check your water pump & belt.
clean rad & cond at the car wash see if that wont help
If it is not overheating then the temp gage or the sending unit are bad.
