Why does my dish network remote only work with the light on and not in the dark?

What receiver do you have? Is it TV 1 or TV 2 that's not working when the lights are off? Have you tried to readdress the remote to your receiver? Normally when the remote stops working, you are getting interference for the IR signal for TV 1 or UHF signal for TV 2. Do you have new batteries in the remote?
