What causes swimming pool water to taste bad?

Stop drinking it. Ok, it had to be said but if you have already tried to treat it with the proper chemicals you probably need to drain it, clean it and refil it.

Before you throw out any water have it tested by your pool shop they wil probably be able to sort ot out for you.

Hmmm, without seeing the water, I would guess that you have somewhat cloudy water. It is cloudy if you can not see a quarter next to the main drain grate at the bottom of the pool. Balance the rest of the chem. === pH and total alkalinity.

How old is the water. More than 8 to 10 yrs old -- then drain or change all or most of the water - adding fresh water.

suggest you take a sample of the pools water to a pool shop that does water testing. They will probably be able to give you an answer in no time flat.

You can use an phosphate remover to get rid of organics that may be in the water causing odors and algae growth. Also, this will help to clean your filter that may be not cleaning up well.

sometimes chlorine tastes salty- there is nothing wrong but you may want to check its levels anyway.

TDS (Total Disolved Solids) in general make the water taste salty. Specifically sodium from the chlorine you add. Draining is the only way to get rid of the salty taste.
