it is possible you have chest or lung infection other possibility could be pleurisy (please i am not a doctor just advising) pleurisy is when the lung cannot get enough air and painful to breathe and may result in lung collapsing
edit: Also it could be just that you slept in wrong position mostly on belly or your one side was more lifted than other. I am now experiencing same pain and i slept today in a weird position.

I broke my right hand about 5 weeks ago and my left rib 4 days ago. I am a first grade teacher so I can't really take off. It hurts to do anything, if I move my left arm my rib shifts, if i try to do anything with my right hand then it hurts. If anyone has any suggestions to ease the pain I'm all ears!
yes it can hurt. One day i was jumping on a trampoline ans the next day my right rib cage was hurting. It was very hard to inhale and exhale. It helps if you put an icepack on it.
