Why does pizza taste good? In: Food and Cooking |
[Edit] |
The Ultimate Combination
There are three elements that create most people's attraction to pizza:
- Human beings, probably due to the evolutionary/survival instinct developed over time, love to eat fat; fat gets stored in our bodies for later use. It's why we like the smell of grilling meat and why we love the texture of butter, ice cream, peanut butter, and other fatty foods like pizza cheese or meats.
- In addition, our bodies feel most satisfied when we've ingested carbohydrates -- these provide us with energy in the short term. Pizza dough, especially thick-crust, contains a lot of these carbs and even the anticipation of this makes it "taste" good.
- Last, the pizza sauce always contain garlic and salt, which are two more ingredients that enhance the taste of food by stimulating the taste-buds on the tongue.
In short, there's a element that "triggers" hunger/satisfaction in all the key areas.
