The earth is divided into an imaginary id by lines of "latitude" and "longitude". Lines of latitude measue north and south, from 0 degrees (at the equator) to 90 degrees (at the earth's poles). Lines of longitude measue east and west, from 0 degrees to 180 degrees BUT there is no natural divider for 0 degrees and 180 degrees like ther is with the equator. SO it was agreed by navigators that 0 degrees would be the line of longitude that runs through Greenwich England. Therefore when travelling from 0 degrees (in England) to the FAR EAST (close to 180 degrees east) you are in Asian waters. If you travel to the WEST (close to 150 degrees west) you are in the United States. The reason that these terms now apply to countries and lifestyles is because China and the US (for example) are the major countries at those latitudes. Because it is on the far east.. I guess.. I mean tha!
The reason Asia is called Far East is because people had to travel far to the east to trade with them
