This is a good question. When Guinea Pigs growl, they usually are telling you to back off or to get away. It does not mean that your pig hates you though. It also might mean that the Guinea Pig wants to mate... That's probably the most common. Hope this helps :)

Growling is a dog's way of expressing strong emotion. They usually growl when they're scared or angry. My dog usually only growls when a stranger is at the door, or a stray dog wonders into the back yard. I've also seen dogs growl when they were really sick, in deep pain.

If your dog is growling at you, it could mean that the dog is being territorial (protecting its territory) you could stop this by when your dog growls, you say no firmly but not too aggressive and move him/her back with your body.

But, If your dog growls too much, it could have rabies. Take it to your doctor right away if your dog growls for about 6-7 hours straight. -popkilj289

It's warning you that you're not doing something they really don't like and it means, "Back-off !!" If you aren't doing anything, I mean, you're like ten feet away from them it stills means, "Go Away!" If you don't, they might bite and scratch you and may not like you for a while.

A growl is a warning, signaling a dog (or person) not to come closer. A pet who growls is, in essence, saying, "I feel under stress. I am unsure of you and don't trust you. I might bite if you come closer to me or try to touch me."

Contrary to popular opinion, growling is not necessarily a bad thing. The animal is showing you how it feels and warning you away from harm. It is far more dangerous if a dog attacks silently, without warning.

It is important not to approach a growling dog, even your own. Allow the animal to relax and regain her composure before getting closer to her. Consider the following true story:

A woman named Jean had owned a shelter dog, Shadow, for less than a week. The animal growled when she approached him as he was lying on her bed; she tried to touch him three more times, and received a growl each time. On the fifth attempt, the pointer mix snapped at her. Jean's response was to cry and feel betrayed, yet Shadow was actually showing tremendous restraint. He did not know her well and was afraid of her, but was trying hard to warn her away from him and avoid injuring her.

Generally it means the kitty isn't happy, but it could also be hurt.

Cats growl because they feel insecure. This usually happens when a cat feels threatened.

I do believe that is a message to the other dog is to back off!

Dogs also sometimes growl at each other when playing but otherwise, yes, most of the time the above answer is correct.
