The check gauges light usually means that one of the gauges is out of its normal range. It could be due to an overheat, a under/over charging alternator, low oil pressure....
Because one or more of the gauges is not in the safe zone.
ie: over/under charging, overheating, low oil pressure.....
gas gauge is at or near empty
I'm assuming that if you leave you vehical over night or longer it goes dead, not while driving? check for a stuck relay or a glove box or trunk light left on.

my trac off light comes on in my 2002 cavalier then the car cuts off, but will start back up minutes later then the check engine light will come on and they both stay on

Check your gas cap. Lots of times its not on tight and causes your light to come on. After you check your cap remove your negative battery cable for a minute to clear the computer and then see what happens

With my Forenza , Sometimes when backing the check engine light will come on and stay on ,and the car runs rough as it is low on power . After Turing it on and off a few times , the check engine light will turn off and the car will run normal . What's the cause of this .
