It's a walkman, a portable music player with headphones or earphones so you can walk around listening to music. People have been using these players for a long time in Asia. Apple "borrowed" the concept. See links below.

There are many skills that veterinarians need, ranging from technical skills such as good manual dexterity and palpation technique to communication skills such as active listening and using appropriate vocabulary for the audience. Veterinarians also need good emotional intelligence and self-management skills, business and financial skills and leadership skills.
I've had this problem too and the only way to fix it is to stop listening to music so loud or stop listening to music using earphones for a few weeks to allow your ears to rebuild and heal. When listening to loud music, it shakes your inner ear lobe causing bad hearing, pain or a ringing noise. It's like playing loud music through speakers at full volume in a shaking house, the walls with time will begin to break down. Your ears will do the exact same. Just take some time out from listening to music and tone it down just that little bit if you do continue. You should never have your music full volume when using earphones on an iPod/MP3 and when on the computer. You're literally damaging your hearing to such an extent that one day you could lose it entirely.

It depends what the earphones are for. If they're simply for you to listen to music while you work - that's at the discretion of the employer. If they're protective earphones to reduce noise in a factory - that's a health & safety issue - and they are required by law to protect your hearing from loud noise !
Well... I did not know about the disadvantages of earphones until I had this condition called "Tinnitus". It is ringing in the ears and it can not be cured. Just look up for tinnitus and try to find what causes tinnitus.
Yes you can. Most computers use loud speakers to hear audio. But, if you don't want to disturb others (for instance) you could listen to audio using earphones. Any computer with a sound card should have a socket in which the earphone's jack can be plugged in.
