you most definitely have a clog in your line.your toilet and bathtub are both draining in the same spot so if your flushing the toilet and there is a clog the water is most likely going to fill in the tub

The tub and toilet connect to the same drain. There is not enough venting or how it is routed causes the tub to pull on the toilet to get venting causing a suction that lowers the water level or may cause it to flush.

Could be several reasons.

-Poor original/incorrect original Plumbing waste line installation.

-If only started recently, it is more likely the drain line is partially clogged and needs to be cleaned or the vent line is partially obstructed and needs to be cleaned.

Your septic tank is probably full, and needs to be pumped out. Look in the yellow pages of your local phone book under "Plumbers" or "Septic Systems" for someone who can do this for you. They can also inform you what to do to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Why when you empty your bath water does the toilet bubble and water comes up into the shower?

Because the two pipes are connected, and the shower is farther down the line than the toilet. So when you flush, you are hearing the water from the toilet pass by your tub. This is also why you will have sewage in your tub if your waste water line is extremely backed up.

How does the trap keep fumes from coming in a house?

The trap is a P or S shaped bend in the drain pipe which retains water to block gases from coming out of the drain. Traps are located under the sink, under a shower or bath tub, and they are formed into the drain path of the toilet.

Where does upstairs sink water and shower water drain to?

There is a main drain that runs from the basement through the roof where it is the vent for the system. If you look at the layout of the house, the upstairs bath is most likely over the downstairs one or the kitchen. If you look on the roof, you will see a 4 inch pipe coming through the roof that should be over the upstairs bath. The sink and shower drain into that and then to the basement and out of the house. Most likely the main stack is in the wall behind the toilet.

Check you vent stack connection inside the house. Gurgling may have been caused by a clogged vent stack not equalizing the pressure. Now that gurgling has stopped it is getting air.
