that is most likely a problem. if people in the houses surrounding you aren't experiencing it then it isn't a main pipe. it is most likely a leak in the sewerage pipe that is near your water pipe.
That is the release of sewer gas well actually very much like it, what it is, is the odor from waste material that is venting back through the sink over flow trap at the fron edge of the sink across from the faucet. Plug the sink fill it to the over flow then add a little detergent (Mr Clean, Pine Sol) into the water and then let it go down the over flow trap that should kill the odor. You may have to do that a few times till it is killed off by the cleaner. No big worries that should fix it.
there is no trap
More than likely a small blockage. pour boiling hot water down the drain and add some bi carb and vinegar to it.
I have seen this where water has leaked into the ductwork and stagnated.
Code there doesn't always require a 'P' trap to hold water and thus block sewer gases from backing into the house.
It is probably sewer gas or something coming up from the drain.
Either you have a blockage present or your vents on your sewer lines have become blocked or you need to install more vents.
If you are on a septic system, it is plugged.
Well, it depends on what you mean by sea-smell. If you mean the smell of the sea, then that would be hard to describe. It's a tangy sort of smell, similar to salty water. Just imagine water with salt, rotten seaweed, and the occasional dead animal stink in it.
I am struggling with this. I have a plastic drain and trap and I think the problem has to do with sediment in the water. A white substance gets caked inside the drain and smells like crazy as soon as water touches it. Is it sulfur in the water? I am trying to clean it regularlyAnsweryour wax seal is gone between base of toilet and flange, because the trap of the toilet is above this point sewer gas would be prevelant if the wax ring is deteriated.
AIR (venting)When the water in the trap portion of your drain evaporates, this removes the natural water seal and opens your home to disease carrying bugs and sewage gas smell. H2GOFlo and the theInterceptor-Plus replenishes this water periodically, creating the required barrier, that blocks off the back flow from the sewer system from having direct access into your home.
Wastewater from your kitchen and bathroom is piped to a gully trap before emptying into the sewer. A gully trap is a basin in the ground with a water seal to prevent foul odours of the sewer reaching the surface. Gully traps are buried in the ground with the tops or surround raised above ground level to prevent ground water entering into the sewer.
One of the biggest culprits I have found for sewer gas smell is the floor drain many floor drains are seldom if ever used and if unused long enough the water in the trap will evaporate allowing sewer gas to enter the dwelling. this also applies to any trap which is not used regularly.
Pour baking soda in the drain.
