Why does your car starter make a high pitched whine when you try to start your car?

Answer

Either a defective starter drive or a chipped tooth on ring gear
Manually rotate engine (socket on crankshaft) Make sure vehicle is in neutral is standard aand then try to start if vehicle starts probably a chipped tooth if not probably a bad starter drive
