Usually because they like each other but sometimes it could be cause they are lonely and have no other cats to lick. It is called grooming and it is a way to get clean. So if you have two cats that like each other and they lick their private areas because of that.

∙ 15y agoVery young kittens need assistance in "using the bathroom" sort to speak. The mother cat will lick their area to stimulate the nerves to have them urinate or defecate. The mother cat will then ingest (eat) it. This is normal! It means she is a very good mom cat and taking care of her kittens. Also cats will sometimes groom each other, which could be the case as well.
