A dishwasher repair man said that the number one cause of white film and drain line buildup is from using the gel style detergent. His comment was that this is for low temperature washers and most high temp dishwashers 'like' the powder. He mentioned that people just started buying the gel because it was "New!" and so that is why you see so much of it on the shelf now.
Here are some tips to help get your dishes clean without leaving filmy residue:- Try a powdered detergent
- Don't use time release capsules
- Run hot water until it comes out hot at the closest sink to your wash. Then Start the Load. Detergent is activated or dissolved by heat.
- Sometimes adding the detergent into the washer without closing it behind any washer timing doors helps
- Call a service man to run a chemical cleaning bath on your dishwasher removing old build up.

∙ 11y agoThe dull film is probably hard water deposits. A dishwashing additive, rinsing agent, may be necessary to remove these hard water deposits and improve the shine on dishes.
