The reason why Windows Live Messenger doesn't display the song information you are listening to in iTunes is because the Windows Media Player process is operating.
Even though you may not have it open, it is running in the background, not doing anything, but this process hijacks the song information being displayed by Messenger.
Get us all up to speed:
1. sign in to the most recent version of windows live messenger
2. make sure the "show what I'm listening to" box is checked
3. open iTunes and play music < important that music is playing
4. check to see if music is shown in messenger
no?
The following steps close the Windows Media Player service.
To get it working again:
1. ctr + alt + del
2. (if this doesn't open the task manager, click task manager)
3. go to the processes tab
4. show processes from all users
5. continue
6. find wmplayer.exe *32 & WMPSideShowGadget.exe
7. right click > end process tree (to both)
8. click end process tree (to both)
9. close the task manager
10. check Windows Live Messenger to see if song information is being shown
and it should work.
if not - you may have another media player running a process i.e. Spotify, winamp, vlc player, ...

for listening to music
Listening to music on iTunes does not count toward data usage and can be done without being on the Internet.
Click on the little options box where you would change your personal message. There should be an arrow pointing downwards, that will say "show what I'm listening to." If you don't have that, go to the personal options box (where you would change your MSN name) and check off the little box that says "show what I'm listening to."
no it doesnt
Go to the store menu in iTunes and select "View My Account". Sign in when prompted and all of your account information will display. To change your billing options click on the "Edit Payment Info" button on the right and from there you can put in the new information.
If iTunes doesnt show the iPod there isn't a lot that you can do with putting music on it. The only way to put music on it and listen to it is that you use iTunes.
Reset your iPod / download a new version of iTunes
